CMSI is proud to announce the release of The Great American Punchline Tour, a feature documentary directed and produced by Caty Borum and Bethany Hall. The feature documentary originated from CMSI’s pilot, presented at The Kennedy Center “Comedy Saves Democracy”.
SYNOPSIS
In a painfully polarized America, a group of comedians journey through the middle of the country in the uneasy summer of 2024 to ask and answer one key question: Can comedy bring us together across our divides? From the heart of Appalachia to cheese curds in Milwaukee and Americana in Muncie and beyond, seven comedians embark on a bumpy bus tour to play and discover common ground—and the great American punchlines that bring us together. Featuring Negin Farsad, Chris Gethard, Corey Ryan Forrester, Yasmin Elhady, Dylan Adler, Maggie Crane and Ali Sultan.
DIRECTORS’ STATEMENT
Comedy is a powerful cultural force that helps us to play and connect with our fellow humans, but we often don’t take it seriously in that way. These amazing comedians help spotlight exactly how and why playful comedians can lighten the mood and help us get along. We hope this film encourages all kinds of communities to think about how a playful spirit and comedic approach to civic dialogue might help cure what ails us. Also, can’t we all use a laugh?
