Filmfest DC: LAKSHMI

This fictional film is based on the true and very moving story of Lakshmi, a 14-year-old girl snatched from her family and sold into a brothel in the city. Through her own will to never give in, she survives the brutal realities of human trafficking and child prostitution and is eventually rescued in a government sting operation.  Resisting all pressure Рviolent threats, coercion and bribes РLakshmi stands up in court and, in a historic landmark case, succeeds in putting the traffickers behind bars.


Winner of the Audience Award at the 2014 Palm Springs International Film Festival.
Also screening Friday, April 25 6:30PM at the Goethe-Institut.
