Filmfest DC: LAKSHMI

Goethe-Institut, 812 7th St NW, Washington, DC 20001

April 24, 2014 8:45pm

This fictional film is based on the true and very moving story of Lakshmi, a 14-year-old girl snatched from her family and sold into a brothel in the city. Through her own will to never give in, she survives the brutal realities of human trafficking and child prostitution and is eventually rescued in a government sting operation.  Resisting all pressure – violent threats, coercion and bribes – Lakshmi stands up in court and, in a historic landmark case, succeeds in putting the traffickers behind bars.
