Saif Shahin

Saif Shahin joined the American University in 2018 after completing his Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin. His scholarship lies at the intersection of media, technology and politics, and is driven by a commitment to social justice. He is especially interested in critical analyses of artificial intelligence and big data, the interplay of emotion and cognition in digital discourses, and online identity construction. He publishes regularly in peer-reviewed journals such as Information, Communication & Society; Social Science Computer Review; American Behavioral Scientist; and The International Journal of Press/Politics. He previously worked as a journalist in India, Britain, Middle East and the United States and continues to contribute news analyses and commentaries to publications worldwide.
